Taking Quizzes & Permit Test

The exam icon in the WorkCenter turns black and my student cannot re-start the test. Why is that?

There are only three reasons why this could happen ...
  1. Once the student closes the web browser tab after having clicked the green (open) exam tile to start it, the examination mechanism has no way of tracking that the exam has started. This effectively aborts the examination. This cancels the ability to score the examination in order to take the proper next step as it would normally do.

  2. OR ... The web browser cache on the machine (when the examination was taken) was full thereby forcing the session to an abort condition. Because the session information in that devices browser is too full with data, it causes it to also abort requiring it to be cleared out. To remedy this condition, you have to change to a different recommended browser OR follow the FAQ here in this line to empty it:

INSTRUCTIONS to Clear Browser Web Cache

Basically, once a click to start an exam starts the exam.. you have to click all the way to the end in order to properly allow the mechanism to score and set the next proper action. Without a proper FINISH, this is an incomplete test that could result in a black colored examination tile icon.

A person wouldn't go to the DPS and get up and walk away from a exam shortly after an arrival having already started the test..

If a student does not want to take the exam, it is better to get up and walk away with the web browser tab still open showing a test question. After the exam times out, it will score and reset properly and will not require any technical assistance.

  3. OR ... Using a mobile web browser (on a cell phone) or an UNRECOMMENDED Web Browser (a Microsoft or Apple Browser) to take an online exam instead of a desktop/laptop browser will also cause the second condition (seen above).

Mobile browsers are not fully able to switch tabs back and forth and go to do email, texting, Facebook, Spotify, Instagram, etc, etc, etc, and come back to the examination properly to remember where it left off.

Mobile browsers can be used for everything BUT exams... but never exams.
